If your existing number is important to you and you would like to transfer (port) it to your new mobile & Network provider then you can transfer your existing number as long as you are changing to a different network.
It doesn't matter whether you are currently on Pay as you Go or a contract package.
Providing you are outside your contractual obligations to your existing Network or Service provider then you can request from them a Porting Authorisation Code or PAC ref from the Customer Services dept of your current Network/Service Provider (this is normally made up of 3 letters and 6 numbers).
IMPORTANT - Before cancelling your existing contract it is best to get in contact with your service provider to find out the correct procedure to transfer a number as some service providers require the PAC number before you start your new contract and others after.
